How do I set up Portfolio Server for use with Portfolio Flow?
Solution
Here’s how to set up Portfolio Server for use with Portfolio Flow:
Install Portfolio Server 11.2 or later:
You will need Portfolio Server version 11.2 or later. If you’re running an earlier version, you will need to upgrade. The latest installers are available here: http://www.extensis.com/support/product-support/portfolio-server-11/
Licensing:
If you have Portfolio Server Professional, you will need to enter an additional license to enable Mobile functionality. If you do not have this license, please contact our sales team.
To enter the additional license:
- Log into Portfolio Server administration
- Click on ‘Licenses’ in the left column
- Click on the ‘+’symbol in the lower right corner
- Type or paste the license number into the License field
- Click on the ‘Add License’ button
If you have Portfolio Server Enterprise, you will not need an additional license. Mobile functionality is included with the Portfolio Server 11 Enterprise license.
Unfortunately, Mobile uploads are not available in Portfolio Studio.
Setting up Mobile Uploads
Here’s how you do that:
- Log into Portfolio Server Administration
- Click on ‘Mobile’ in the left column
- Click on the checkbox “Enable Mobile Uploading”
- Decide if you want to use the default folder location for mobile uploads. On Windows it’s
C:\Portfolio\Mobile Uploads
. On Mac OS X it’s/Users/Shared/Portfolio/Mobile Uploads
. If you choose a different location, make sure that the Portfolio Server service has access to it. Click on the “Browse” button to choose a different location. - If you click on “Create new catalog ‘Mobile Uploads’ to automatically watch this folder”, Portfolio Server will create a new catalog that is dedicated to cataloging assets from the Mobile Uploads folder.
- Click on the “Apply” button
If you want to use a catalog that already exists, see this KB article.
Portfolio Server is now ready to receive assets from iOS and Android devices.
Provide your Portfolio Flow users the following information to connect to the server:
- The server’s IP address or DNS name.
- The Web Client port number. The default Web Client port value is 8090. If enabled with a custom security certificate, the
secure (SSL) Web Client port default value is 9443. - Their Portfolio username and password.
