I get an error stating, “There has been a serious error detected with your Suitcase Fusion fontvault…” when opening Suitcase Fusion 5 (Windows)

Description

When opening Suitcase Fusion 5, it fails to launch and the following error message is displayed:

“There has been a serious error detected with your Suitcase Fusion font vault. Please contact technical support for assistance.”

Solution

This error message means that there are problems with your current font vault and a new one needs to be created.

To resolve this issue, please follow these steps:

  1. Open Windows Task Manager (Control + Alt + Delete)
  2. Choose > the Processes tab
  3. Locate “FMCore.exe” and click the “End Process” button
  4. Remove the following files:
  5. NOTE: AppData/Application Data is a hidden folder. In order to view it, choose Start > Control Panel  > Folder Options > View tab and check “Show hidden files and folders.”

  • Windows XP
  1. C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Extensis\com.extensis.FMCore-LaunchInfo.conf
  2. C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Extensis\com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion.db
  3. C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Extensis\FontManagementUI.exe (folder)
  • Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8
    1. C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Extensis\com.extensis.FMCore-LaunchInfo.conf
    2. C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Extensis\com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion.db
    3. C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Extensis\FontManagementUI.exe (folder)
  • Move your font vault, which contains copies of your fonts, to the desktop for safe keeping:
    • Windows XP
    1. C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Extensis\Suitcase Fusion\Suitcase Fusion.fontvault
  • Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8
    1. C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Extensis\Suitcase Fusion\Suitcase Fusion.fontvault
  • Open Suitcase Fusion 5 and select the Font Library in the left sidebar
  • Open the font vault folder on the your desktop
  • Drag and drop the ‘l’ folder into the Suitcase application window, which will copy your fonts from the old font vault into the new one
