I get a “Unable to start the Universal Type Core” error when I try to launch Universal Type Client on Mac OS X

Description

When I try to launch Universal Type Client, I get an error that states, “Unable to start the Universal Type Core”.

Solution

Here’s how to resolve that issue:

Reset the FMCore process

1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder
2. Enter ~/.Extensis into the Go to the folder field and click the Go button
3. Drag the FMCore folder to the Trash
4. Launch Universal Type Client

Reset UTC’s Preferences

1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder
2. Enter ~/library/preferences into the Go to the folder field and click the Go button
3. Delete any files whose names start with: com.extensis.UniversalTypeClient
4. Launch Universal Type Client

Reset the Font Vault

1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder
2. Enter /library/Extensis/UTC/ into the Go to the folder field and click the Go button
3. Move all folders in the UTC folder to the trash
4. Launch Universal Type Client
